Description:
Trophy. 9x10 Circular bronze sculpture depicting, inside, the word “jazz” and the rod of Asclepius, consisting of a serpent entwined around a staff. Outside, it is flanked by two musicians playing trumpet and saxophone, and on top, a bust of a female singer. It is mounted on a wood base with engraved plate and rests on an oblong flat piece of stone. On the back, it bears the artist's autograph and a date "Charles Dickson" "5-16-95" traced into the bronze First "Jazz at Drew" Living Legend Music Award presented to Lionel Hampton by Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science Alumni Association. Los Angeles, CA, Oct. 7-8, 1995
